Morning routine for Entrepreneurs

I’ve been an entrepreneur for 17 years, and in that time, I’ve found that creating and maintaining a morning routine is essential to my self-care. It helps me reconnect to myself and my vision, and it just keeps me grounded, especially when things are tough. The following items are a great way to get a morning routine going.

Full disclosure: I do receive a small commission for each item purchased through the links below. That said, I absolutely believe in the value these items will bring to you and your loved ones, and I hope you’ll find them as fun and useful as I do!

1. The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron

A lot of us have heard of this book, but for those of you who haven’t, The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron offers a great way to get your creativity flowing. It’s particularly helpful if you’re feeling stuck or restricted and allows you to create opportunities for self-growth and self-discovery. Cameron’s famous “The Morning Pages” routine—a daily writing of three pages of stream-of-conscious—and “The Artist Date”—a dedicated block of creativity time—are outlined in this book along with other exercises that provide clarity, guidance, and self-assurance. A great addition to any morning routine.

2. Noise Cancelling Headphones

Meditation is one of the most important elements in the morning routine for entrepreneurs, and I often love listening to meditation music or guided meditations. These headphones come with active noise cancellation, allowing you to concentrate on whatever you’re listening to without distraction. They’re wireless and Bluetooth enabled, so you can even do exercise or whatever else you need, hands free! There are several different colors to choose from, so pick what suits your style the most.

3. Future Self

A phenomenal way to start journaling is to use a guided journal, especially if you’re not sure how or where to get started. In this particular journal, you’ll write to your future self: what your hobbies and dreams are, what your life looks like in this moment, and other such memories and aspirations. The journal has you decide a day and time when you’ll revisit what you write here, giving you the opportunity to see your growth, and how life has changed for you.

I love this journal because it gives me the chance to connect my past, present, and future selves, and I get to show all of them how my life was, is, and is going to be. Or how I want it to be. Sometimes, I get to surprise myself with what happens. Use this journal and see what surprises are in store for you!

4. Affirmation Notebook

Affirmations are a simple way to manifest what you desire. Usually starting with “I am” or “I have,” affirmations are short sentences that you write continuously until your manifestations come into your life.

My favorite method to do this is called the 369 Method. Once you’ve decided on your affirmation, when you wake up in the morning, write it down 3 times. Then, in the afternoon, write your affirmation 6 times. Finally, right before you go to sleep, you write your affirmation down 9 times. Repeat as needed until your manifestation happens! It’s really that simple.

What’s great about this is you don’t need a fancy notebook or a dedicated affirmation journal. Any journal will do, like this one here. It comes with a hard cover and a pen loop so your pages will stay safe, and your pen will always be within reach. This notebook is small, too, so you can take it with you wherever you go!

5. Gaiam Essentials Yoga Mat

Yoga is a phenomenal way to exercise. It not only stretches the body, it also provides mental clarity, increases body awareness, and relaxes the mind, among other things. This mat is perfect for any yoga routine because it’s thicker than other mats, and it comes with a carrier strap, so you can take it with you wherever you go. If you’re looking to add yoga to your morning routine (or already have it included), then this mat is a great addition!

6. Weights

I’m always exercising to maintain a healthy body and a clear mind, and lifting weights is one of my favorite ways to exercise in the morning. This weight set includes 3 pairs of dumbbells— 3 lbs., 5 lbs., and 8 lbs. so you can start with whatever weight you need. It also comes with a weight stand, which means your weights won’t be rolling around the house when you’re done!

7. Intelligent Change’s 5 Minute Journal

This journal is absolutely one of the best journals out there, and I simply cannot recommend it enough. In the morning, for just five minutes, you write out what you’re grateful for, what could make your day great, and a daily affirmation. In the evening, just before bed, you get to remind yourself of a few highlights of the day and what you learned, too. It’s a phenomenal way to cultivate a gratitude and mindfulness practice!
