Top Books for Entrepreneurs success

Entrepreneurs are constantly learning all the time. We have to in order to grow and create success, and one of the best ways to learn is to read books by those that have achieved that success.

But which books? There are nearly thousands to choose from, some of which are helpful and some of which aren’t, so it can be difficult to know where to begin.

In this list, I’m sharing 9 of my top books for entrepreneurs success. I personally love these books, and I hope they help you as much as they did for me.

Full disclosure: I do receive a small commission for each item purchased through the links below. That said, I absolutely believe in the value these items will bring to you and your loved ones, and I hope you’ll find them as fun and useful as I do!

1. The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It

Michael E. Gerber, known as the “World’s #1 Small Business Guru,”  first wrote The E-Myth in 1986 in an attempt to help small businesses flourish and become sustainable. The E-Myth Revisited was written in 1995 with updates and has since been republished and read thousands of times over the years. Gerber, with his years of experience, walks entrepreneurs through the stages of owning a business—from its infancy through to a matured business—and shows how to create a successful, long-term business. If you want good insights on how to make your business succeed, then this book is for you.

2. 10x Is Easier Than 2x: How World-Class Entrepreneurs Achieve More by Doing Less

We’ve all heard the saying, “Work hard, and you’ll be successful!” With the implication that the harder you work, the more successful you’ll be. Dan Sullivan, a coach for highly successful entrepreneurs, argues the opposite, saying “that achieving 10X growth is exponentially easier than striving for 2X growth.” While this sounds confusing and counterintuitive at first (most think it means they’ll have to 10x as hard), Sullivan says that once you learn to expand your four most valuable freedoms—time, money, relationship, and purpose—10x, then your life and your business will become 10x more powerful and successful. If you want to see your business and your life grow exponentially, then I highly recommend picking up this book!

3. Profit First: Transform Your Business from a Cash-Eating Monster to a Money-Making Machine

Most of us, when we start our businesses, are just chugging along and figuring things out as we go. While this a valuable learning experience, it can often lead to mistakes that can cost us dearly. In Profit First, Mike Michalowicz shows how to transform your accounting to create a sustainable business. While conventional accounting uses the formula Sales – Expenses = Profit, Michalowicz, a serial entrepreneur himself, says to flip the formula: Sales – Profit = Expenses. By doing this, your business will become more profitable. While I normally only recommend books to read as each entrepreneur is different, this is a book I always have my clients read. It is a part of my Profitable by Design course, and if you want to be profitable, then this book is a must.

4. The Go-Giver, Expanded Edition: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea

“Most people just laugh when they hear that the secret to success is giving….Then again, most people are nowhere near as successful as they wish they were.”

This small but mighty book is the first of three in a series, and it’s written differently than most business books. Instead of giving you statistics or a list of things you need to do, this is written as a story. It’s the story of Joe, a man who wants to achieve success, who seeks out Pindar, an enigmatic consultant. Pindar then introduces Joe to five of his friends who all teach him the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success and the power of giving. If you want to see how going against the grain and being a giver instead of a getter can help you achieve success, then read this book!

5. Who Not How: The Formula to Achieve Bigger Goals Through Accelerating Teamwork

Another phenomenal book by Dan Sullivan.

We’ve all been there: We get this really great idea. We’re excited by it; we want to do it. But then… we don’t take action to get it done. We procrastinate, finding any excuse to not actually get started, getting overwhelmed thinking about how to begin. In this book, Sullivan says that we should go from asking ourselves, “How can I do this?” to “Who can do this for me?” Making this mental shift allows us to open a whole world of possibilities and potential, and Sullivan shows readers how billionaires and other entrepreneurs achieve success by asking themselves this very question. If you’re ready to make this mental shift, Who Not How is a fantastic read.

6. Girl On Fire: How to Choose Yourself, Burn the Rule Book, and Blaze Your Own Trail in Life and Business

The world we currently live in has rules and regulations that were set down by men. How work is done, how long people work, what life should look like, etc. In this awesome sequel to her book Girl Code, Cara Alwill Leyba wants women to throw out the rules. She asks, “Who would you be if you stopped following *their* rules? What would you create if you had nothing holding you back?” We as women and as entrepreneurs need to band together, support and hold each other up, and do things our way. Success in this world wasn’t made for us, so we have to go out and create it, without their rules. If you want to learn more about how to do this, then be sure to read Girl on Fire.

7. Automate Your Busywork: Do Less, Achieve More, and Save Your Brain for the Big Stuff

Our number one and most valuable asset is time. And so many of us spend it on busywork, leaving our brains too tired to get to the bigger stuff like thinking of new products or services to sell. In this book, author Aytekin Tank, founder and CEO of Jotform, shows you how to make the most of your time by offloading and automating your work. If you’re tired of busywork and want to have more hours in your day, then Tank’s advice in this book is just what you need.

8. She Sells: The Empathy Advantage

Megan Dipiero went from stay-at-home mom to 7 figure earner, and she did it her own way. When people think of needing to sell, they think they have to be greedy, manipulative, and salesy, and it makes us not want to sell because we just feel gross and guilty for asking people to spend money. In She Sells, Dipiero says that not only are top clients willing to spend big bucks, they actually want to, and there are more out there than we might think. She’ll show you just how to build your business to thrive in this modern economy and how to lean into your empathy to do it rather than ignore it.

9. Playing Big: Practical Wisdom for Women Who Want to Speak Up, Create, and Lead

For nearly our entire lives, we women have been made to feel small and less than our male counterparts. This leads us to play small, take fewer risks, and see far less success, even though we want more. Tara Mohr, a coach for women, saw this firsthand from her clients, so she devised a way for women to achieve success by “playing big from the inside out.” This book has helped thousands of women learn how to play big and achieve success on their own terms, no matter what that looks like for each woman. If you’re ready to play bigger in your life and in your business, then be sure to grab this book.
